Jim, here Bersa are very popular and accessible weapons. Bersa is the most popular private handgun brand. With "private", I mean that it belongs to common people, and not to the Federal Government, like the greatest and most famous brand "Fabricaciones Militares" or "FM", which belongs to the Federal State of Argentina (is that clear to understand?).
A Bersa Thunder .380 matte blue costs $ 600 (about U$S 200); Bersa Thunder Ultra Compact 9 mm costs about $ 1000 (U$S 330); Bersa Thunder 9 mm costs $ 900 (U$S 300). Those are the weapon`s prices. You must add the cost of 2 kind of permissions:
1) "legitimo usuario" (or "legal user": this lets you to own and use guns; without this, you can`t legally buy or use a weapon): about U$S 30; you must get this permission just once.
2) "tenencia" (or "possession", this lets to hold your own gun; you must have 1 "tenencia" for each weapon you own): about U$S 10.
Now, both kind of permissions are valid just for 5 years; after them, you must renew them.
To be a legal user is not easy; first, you must prove that you havent any kind of mental illness; that you havent any kind of criminal penalty; that you know the law; and that you know how to use a gun.

Hi! There are some alternative grips for every Bersa. One of the most popular are the rubber "KRD" grips (www.krdhigh-tec.com/ ). There are different sizes and shapes, and theyre pretty cheap (about U$S 10). Unfortunately, KRD`s website isnt updated, and the information available is very limited.
KRD also makes alternative Bersa magazines, and other stuffs (a 19 cartridge Bersa Thunder 9 HC costs less than U$S 20).
Some gun shops still have the old Bersas wooden line of grips (in checkered wood). They cost between U$S 15 and U$S 30.
And there are a lot of wood artisans who are dedicated to make grips. But, they havent websites.
If you want to have an idea of argentine`s prices, you can take a look at www.fullaventura.com ; prices are expressed in argentine pesos (1 US dollar = 3 pesos).

Well, things are a little bit more complicated than what I said before. Ill try to do my best to make you understand the particularities of our law. First, its a federal one, and that means than it rules the whole country.
Second: there are two categories of "legitimo usuario" (legitimate users): a) "legitimo usuario de arma de uso civil" (legitimate user of civil gun): lets you use and own a weapon smaller than cal. .32 for rifled bored guns, and cal. 20 in shotguns. And the weapon mustnt be empowered or "magnum". This category is very easy to achieve and its cheap (about U$S 20). But it wont let you use or own a gun bigger than those calibers.
b) "legitimo usuario de arma de guerra" (legitimate user of war gun): lets you own and use weapons of every calibers. "arma de guerra" (war gun) it that is bigger than cal. 32 or cal. 20. This other categorie isnt easy to get, and its more expensive (about U$S 30).
Proceedings last about 2 months; it is supposed that ifs fully computarized, but burocracy also works here.
"Tenencia" (or possession) just lets you possess the gun, and eventually transport it in some way that you cant use it: with empty magazine, locked and in a box. You cant take it using a holster, or in your clothes. I mean: the gun must not be ready to use and you cant make it visible to other people.
Theres another permission called "portacion" (carry permit). This is very, very difficult to achieve. You must probe that your life is in danger, or that you are living in some place without police protection (almost in the middle of the desert). Other way, is probing that you work in a law enforcement, or you are policeman or military. If you are civilian, you must renew this permission every year, and it costs about U$S 20.
